“Swine flu†symptoms and how can it be prevented?
Disease symptoms
A/H1N1 is an acute infectious disease caused by a high-pathogenic virus strain. Its symptoms are similar to the symptoms of seasonal flu and include fever, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, body aches, headache, chills and fatigue. A significant number of people who have been infected with novel H1N1 flu virus also have reported diarrhea and vomiting. People at higher risk of serious complications from seasonal flu include people age 65 years and older, children younger than 5 years old, pregnant women, people of any age with chronic medical conditions If you are sick, you may be ill for a week or longer. With seasonal flu, people may be contagious from one day before they develop symptoms to up to 7 days after they get sick. Unless necessary for medical care, you should stay home and minimize contact with others, including avoiding travel and not going to work or school, for 7 days after your symptoms begin or until you have been symptom-free for 24 hours, whichever is longer.
What measures should be taken in case of first symptoms of the disease?
In case of first symptoms you should consult a doctor, drink more liquid, use the mask and frequently wash hands. You have to observe the hygienic rules if there is an ill person in the family, to avoid the contacts with people having acute respiratory diseases or influenza. You should stay home and minimize contact with others, including avoiding travel and not going to work or school.
How to protect from A/H1N1 virus?
- Avoid contacts with people having a temperature and cough
- Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze. Alcohol-based hand cleaners are also effective.
- Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth. Germs spread this way.
- Observe healthy life style and normal sleeping
- Eat vitamin-rich foods and be physically active
- Stay home during the illness and ask for medical help.
Sick-nurse rules at home
- Isolate ill person
- Use mask or respirator and change it every four hours during the nursing
- Wash hands with soap after
- Ventilate and clean room where ill person isolated.
