Azerbaijan’s population grows by 0.9% during January-September

Baku. Nijat Mustafayev – APA-Economics. As of October 1, Azerbaijan’s population grew 76 000 people or 0.9% during January-September to 8.973 million, said the State Statistical Committee.

51.7% of the population live in urban and 48.3% in rural areas. Men accounted for 49% and women 51% of the population or the ratio of men to women was 1 000 to 1041.
23% of the population are aged 0-14, 70% - 15-64 and 7% - above 65. The average age of the population is 31.2, average life expectancy is 72.7, including 70 years for men and 75.4 years for women.

The mortality rate remained dropped to 6 from 6.1 deaths per 1,000 people and birth rate increased to 16.6% from 16.5%.

The country registered 109 500 births, or 401 babies a day during January-September.

Of the newborns, 54.1% are boys and 45.9% girls. Also, 1 196 twins and 18 triplets were born during this period.

54 600 marriages and 5 800 divorces were registered during this period, the number pf marriages per 1 000 people increased to 8.2 from 8.1.

Average marriage age was 27 for men and 23 for women.
