1037 women suffer from breast cancer in Azerbaijan

Kamala Guliyeva – APA. “Nearly 7000 women suffered from cancer were registered in Azerbaijan. 1037 of them suffer from breast cancer”, said participants of the breast cancer conference held for the journalists on Wednesday. The conference was organized by the USAID First Medical Aid Project, National Oncological Center, Azerbaijan Medical University’s Oncologic Clinic, UN Population Fund and Leader Women and Democratic Development Public Union for strengthening knowledge about breast cancer case rate in Azerbaijan and in the world, methods of prevention, causes and first symptoms.
Chairwoman of the Leader Women Public Union Malahat Ibrahimgizi said October was declared a month for prevention of breast cancer. “According to the statistics, every ten oncologically ill women suffer from the breast cancer. Unfortunately this disease is identified in the post-soviet countries, including Azerbaijan in its last stage. Early-identified patient can be treated”.
Assistant Director of the National Oncological Center Rasim Jafarov said breast cancer is the most frequent form of the oncological diseases. Jafarov said the National Oncological Center organized free mammo-graphic checkups in the regions.
Senior Doctor of the AMU’s Oncological Clinic Nasimi Gasimov said every year they examined 8000 ambulatory and 5000 stationary patients. He said 6.3 million died from breast cancer in 2006 in the world and it could rise to 16 million in 2050.
