Investment in education reaches AZN 220 million in Azerbaijan

Baku. Elnur Huseynguluyev - APA-ECONOMICS. As compared to 2003, the funds for education increased by 5-fold to AZN 1.3 billion and investment in education rose from AZN 5.8 million to AZN 220 million, said Minister of Education Misir Mardanov at a government meeting.

According to him, despite the global crisis, investment in the education sector amounted to AZN 45 million this year.

"Work is under way to develop a mechanism for implementing the Law on Education.
AZN 17 million has been allocated from the Presidentâ€™s Reserve Fund for the strengthening of material-technical base of educational institutions,â€ he added.

He also said in his report that 28 kindergartens were opened, 21 kindergartens were overhauled, 6 private preschools were launched over the past two years.
For the first time in the past 20 years, pre-schools were provided with 37 types of education materials.

As a result, the number of children attending kindergartens increased by 4 000 in Baku, he added.
