Baku. Malahat Najafova – APA. The Azerbaijani model is expedient in resolving ethnic and religious conflicts, said Chairman of the Caucasian Muslims Office Sheikhulislam Allahshukur Pashazade.
He made the remarks addressing a panel discussion held within the 5th Baku International Humanitarian Forum in Baku Sept. 29.
The CMO chairman stressed the policy of genocide committed against the civilian population of Azerbaijan.
“Our country faced the problem of terrorism and refugees. Mosques, churches and synagogues were destroyed in the country,” he said, noting that despite all this, Azerbaijan stands for a peaceful solution to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict within international law.
According to him, the recent developments in the world caused the spread of religious extremism.
“Extremist movements are abusing Islam to carry out their dirty intentions. This is of serious concern to us,” he said.
The CMO chairman welcomed the efforts of Patriarch Kirill, the Russian Orthodox Church for a fair and peaceful resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and preventing it from turning into a religious conflict.
“It would be expedient to use the Azerbaijani model in resolution of ethnic and religious conflicts,” he added.
The 5th Baku International Humanitarian Forum kicked off at the Heydar Aliyev Center, Baku on Sep.29.
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev attended the official opening ceremony of the forum.
The Baku International Humanitarian Forum was initiated in 2010 by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and former Russian President, current Prime Minister of Russia Dmitry Medvedev.
