Relations between Estonia and Azerbaijan are entering a new phase, and the two countries intend to expand cooperation in trade, economy, digital development, innovation, green technologies, logistics and education, Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna stated at the opening of the fourth meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission on Cooperation between Estonia and Azerbaijan in Tallinn on November 4, APA reports.

The minister emphasized that Azerbaijan is an important partner for Estonia in the South Caucasus.

"In recent years, our relations have grown significantly closer, and we have consistently expanded our cooperation in digital affairs, trade, green technologies and logistics," Tsahkna noted.

According to him, a number of Estonian companies are already successfully operating in Azerbaijan, particularly in the development of digital services. A business delegation comprising around 20 companies that visited Baku last year also demonstrated Estonian companies' interest in the Azerbaijani market.

Tsahkna stated that there are also good opportunities to expand cooperation between the two countries in the fields of energy and education.

The Estonian Foreign Minister also stated that the opening of a new Estonian embassy in Baku is an indication of the strengthening of bilateral partnership. According to him, the embassy's official opening will take place at the end of November. The Foreign Minister also announced that he would attend the embassy's opening ceremony.

It should be noted that during the meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission, the parties agreed to strengthen trade and agricultural ties through regular meetings, business contacts and exchanges of experience. In addition, they decided to continue joint initiatives in digital development, innovation, technologies and the application of artificial intelligence.

During discussions on energy issues, the parties considered opportunities to increase the participation of Estonian companies and investors in Azerbaijan's green transition projects. In the fields of digital development, artificial intelligence and cybersecurity, they discussed increasing Estonia's contribution to the development of digital solutions in Azerbaijan and promoting exchanges of experts.

The meeting also explored opportunities to expand cooperation in climate, tourism, education and culture.
