US Vice President James David Vance has stated that the war with Iran was the main reason for the Republican Party's defeat in the November 3 midterm elections, APA reports.

He noted that although Republican voters turned out for the elections, some of them voted for Democrats this time.

According to Vance, many Americans who voted for Donald Trump and James David Vance in 2024 supported Democrats in the 2026 elections.

Vance also stated that rising inflation, the cost of living, and relations with Israel were among the reasons for the Republicans' electoral defeat.

He emphasized that four key issues must be addressed to bring dissatisfied voters who supported Democrats back to the Republican Party: ending the war with Iran, tackling inflation, returning to the "America First" policy, and changing relations with Israel.

Vance also stated that Rachel Campos-Duffy, who advocated a diplomatic resolution to the conflict during the election campaign, had offered sound political advice.

"The reason we lost is the war. The president himself said so last night. If you'd like to argue it was worth it, that losing the Senate for the next 6 years was worth it, then do so. Argue it was a worthwhile cost to pay. Agree or disagree, that's at least honest. But everyone knows why we lost. And any honest conversation about where we go from here must start there. I remain hopeful about our country," Vance wrote in a post on his X account.

He also called on Republicans to draw lessons from the election results and continue their efforts for the country's future.
