Azerbaijanâ€™s State Committee comments on media reports about closure of Huseyniyye mosque

The prayer house in Yasamal street, 7, called Huseyniyye (Gurangah) is the Production and Training Center #4 of Azerbaijani Society of the Deaf.

â€œThe prayer house functioned without the permission of the society.
President of the Society Tapdig Khaligov sent a letter to the State Committee for Work with Religious Organizations and said that the area of Gurangah belonged to the society, the prayer house functioned without any documents, donation boxes were placed in front of it to illegally collect money. The letter reads that the Standing Commission under the Central Office of Azerbaijani Society of the Deaf inspected the area several times. The commission demanded necessary documents, but no documents were submitted to the commission, the instructions to close Gurangah were ignored. The Society asked the give information whether Gurangahâ€™s activity was in line with the requirements of the legislation or not. The State Committee for Work with Religious Organization replied to the Societyâ€™s letter and said no religious community was registered in that address, the activity of Gurangah was illegal. According to Article 12 of the Law on Religious Freedom, religious organizations can function only after they are registered by the relevant executive power, after the religious centers and departments appoint religious figures to these organizations.â€
