The length of active military service during peacetime has been reduced by six months for officers called up from the reserve for compulsory service or those who voluntarily enlist for active service under contract, APA reports.

The provision is reflected in proposed amendments to the laws “On Approval of the Regulations on Military Service” and “On Military Duty and Military Service” approved by President Ilham Aliyev.

Under the proposed changes, the service period for officers called up from the reserve for compulsory active service or those who voluntarily enlist under contract will be reduced to one year. Upon completion of this period, they may be transferred to the regular officer corps by mutual agreement.

For foreign nationals and stateless persons who voluntarily enlist for active military service under contract, the service period will remain up to three years, with the option to conclude a new contract by mutual agreement upon completion.
