Amashov said it is also necessary to benefit from other forms of assistance prescribed in the “Concept of state support for the development of mass media in Azerbaijan.”
The conditions resulting from manat’s devalution and the dramatic rise in the rate of US dollar have caused problems for mass media outlets in Azerbaijan as well, according to the MP.
“For newspapers, both publishing and other expenses have mounted. Newsprint has become significantly expensive, and the prices of other pieces of printing equipment are likewise going up. What’s more, editorial equipment and accessories are now offered at new prices. What’s even worse is that the former wages of journalists have lost almost a half of theirs value. These all make us, including myself as a MP journalist, rethink more,” noted Amashov.
The Press Council chairman said the issues of the retail sales of newspapers should also be considered. “Legal mechanisms should be established in this field,” he added.
He also said that the Press Council has already developed the draft regulations on the funding of e-media, but the status of e-media should be determined first.
Amashov underlined the need for a separate concept of information security in the current situation.
