Amashov said that the Press Council welcomed the President’s attitude towards journalist Rasim Aliyev’s death. “It should be regarded as a state attention to the protection of freedom of speech and press, normal functioning of the media that are fundamental principles of a democratic society in the country,” he said.
The Council Chairman said that Azerbaijani President’s attitude towards the issue is also a challenge to be more careful, sensitive and tolerant of free speech, pluralistic opinions: “Regardless of position and profession, protection of this principle should be priority of every person. Mr. President once again showed that he is a close friend of the journalists and always supports them,” he said.
