Roundtable held on the theme â€œLawsuits against media, journalistsâ€

Baku. Ramil Mammadli â€“ APA. Media Rights Institute held a roundtable on the theme â€œLawsuits against media, journalistsâ€, APA reports.

Coordinator of the Institute Khalid Agaliyev made a speech on the theme â€œLawsuits regarding crisis and insults, the statistics of the last five yearsâ€, director of the Media Rights Institute Rashid Hajili on the theme â€œCourt judgments regarding defamation, conformity of the judgments to the practice of the European Courtâ€, expert Alasgar Mammadli spoke about media rights.

It was noted that 14 legal actions were held against media in 2005, 1 journalist was arrested, in general, the media organizations were fined of AZN 450 000.

29 legal actions were held in 2006, 3 journalists were arrested, mass media was fined of AZN 950 000. 103 legal actions were held in 2007, 9 journalists were arrested, media organizations were fined of AZN 924 000. 25 legal actions were held in 2008, 2 journalists were arrested, 7 faced compulsory labor, AZN 106 000 fine was imposed.

28 legal actions were held in 2009, 3 journalists were put under restraint, 6 faced compulsory labor. 71 legal actions were held in 2010, mandatory penalty was imposed on 5 journalists, AZN 37 500 fine was imposed.

32 legal actions were held in 2011, mandatory penalty was imposed on 1 journalist, AZN 46 700 fine was imposed. 11 legal actions were held in the past months of 2012, media organizations were fined of AZN 50 000. No journalist was arrested.
