European journalist investigating women problems visits APA Group

Storer met with APA Groupâ€™s Director General Vusala Mahirgizi. The journalist, who is on a visit to Azerbaijan on the initiative of the European Azerbaijan Society, said she was interested in learning the role of Azerbaijani women in the political life, family and the society, as well as the problems of domestic violence and others. She said main goal of her visit is to learn the situation in this field in Azerbaijan.

Vusala Mahirgizi spoke about the socio-political position of the Azerbaijani woman and her role in the family. She noted that Azerbaijan was the first country in the East giving the voting right to the women and said the Azerbaijani women took active part in all spheres of the society today. Stressing the gender equality in all spheres in the country, Mahirgizi said there was no quota for the women in public offices and the parliamentary elections. She said Azerbaijani women had no problem with using their rights.
