Azerbaijani Justice Ministry issues statement on confiscation of the Khural newspaperâ€™s property

The statement says that comprehensive reforms are being carried out, large-scale measures taken in the republic to ensure the freedom of expression, freedom of press, free activity of the mass media.
â€œDue to the favorable conditions, 4520 publications have been registered in the country. But some publications abuse the broad opportunities and write slanders, insults and groundless accusations. Azerbaijani Press Council has blacklisted tens of newspapers for violating the Rules of Journalistsâ€™ Professional Ethics, ignoring to publish the views of those subjected to criticism, ignoring the right of privacy, insulting honor and dignity of persons.â€

One of them, the Khural newspaper has been blacklisted for false articles, biased position and insults and according to the Press Council numerous complaints were received with this regard.

The Khural newspaper was sued several times within three years for casting shadow on the activities of state and public figures, culture figures, insulating their honor and dignity. Six cases were considered and according to the judgments, the newspaper was brought to civil, administrative and criminal responsibility.

Three of the judgments on the Khural newspaper regarding the lawsuits of executive director of the Fund of State Support for Mass Media Vugar Safarli, director of Azerbaijan Publishing House, editor-in-chief of the Bakinskiy Rabochiy newspaper Agabey Asgarov and singer Nushaba Alasgarli were directed to execution, despite all the measures the newspaper avoided execution of the judgment. In connection with it, the property of the newspaper has been confiscated.

With the view of justifying their illegal actions the Khural newspaper held a press conference on October 19. The representatives of the newspaper tried to paint the legal actions of the executors as instructions of the officials.

The slanderous actions of the Khural newspaper are nothing but attempts to avoid the execution of the court judgments.â€

The property of the Khural newspaper was confiscated by the executors of Narimanov district court on October 19.
