Chairman of Press Council addresses World Congress of International Press Institute

Press Council told APA that chairman of the Council Aflatun Amashov addressed the congress that was also attended by Azerbaijani media representatives. Giving information about Azerbaijanâ€™s characteristic features Aflatun Amashov spoke about the peculiarities of the media. He said the main mission of the Press Council is to regulate the media-government relations. The Council also put forward several important legislative initiatives.

Various aspects of journalist security, application of new technologies in mass media, characteristic features of new media, determination of ways so that media remains as business structure in critical situations were discussed during the sessions of the congress. The meeting, where Free Media Pioneer Award 2011 of the IPI was presented, was memorable for the Azerbaijani delegation. The Azerbaijani representatives met with the media representatives from the US, Austria, Finland and informed them about the present state of the media in the country.

The Azerbaijani delegation that attended the IPIâ€™s World Congress included chairman of the Press Council Aflatun Amashov, deputy chairman of the Press Council, head of Azerbaijan National Committee of the IPI Umud Rahimoglu, Director General of APA-Group Vusala Mahirgizi, Head of the Program Development and International Relations Department of the International Eurasia Press Fund Nick Nwolisa.
