For the first time among the CIS countries Azerbaijan will refuse analog television broadcasting, chairman of the National Television and Radio Council Nushiravan Maharramli told journalists, APA reports. He called on the people to be ready for the process.
“In order to realize digital television transition the analog broadcasting must be conformed to the digital broadcasting. Decoder must be bought for this. Satellite Plant of the Defense Ministry and Kur Plant have started producing decoders in Azerbaijan. The plants will soon start mass production. Entrepreneurs also import decoders,” he said.

Maharramli said the decoders cost AZN 30-35.
“But we are holding talks with the producers in order to reduce the price. If there is mass production, the prices must be reduced,” he said.

Chairman of the council said analog and digital broadcasting will be simultaneously available in Azerbaijan for two months, after that analog broadcasting will be completely stopped.
