Azerbaijani delegation participate World Congress, 2011 of World Press Institute
At the congress attended by famous media organizations and famous authors the discussions were held in several sessions.
At the opening ceremony of the Congress Ying Jeou Ma, head of Taiwan had a speech. He noted that media freedom gave a great stimulation to development of the world. He added his satisfaction to host such a respected congress.
The Director of WPI, having say at the opening, talked about current situation of freedom of speech and discussions on forming new media. At the business dinner hosted by Press and Information Ministry of Taiwan World Press Institute (WPI) declared names of two journalists granted with “World Press Freedom Heroes†titles.
According to A. McKenzie number of World Press Freedom Heroes reached 62 people. “This year WPI decided to grant 2 journalists as it is impossible to differentiate between them. The granted journalists, Daniel Pearl from United States and Raymond Louve, editor form South Africa, highlighted critical issues on fighting against terror and ending apartheid regime in South Africa. Mr. Daniel Pearl was killed mercilessly in Pakistan, 2002 but Reymond Louve will get prize personallyâ€, said A. McKenzie.
Ms. McKenzie in her speech stated that carrying out professional duties remains as a main reason for killing journalists.
Then, Free Media Pioneer award was granted. This year’s winner for the award was online Radio “Kalimo†of Tunisia. This radio underwent continuous pressures for broadcasting unbiased news during presidency of Zine al-Abidin, former head of Tunisia. Azerbaijan National Committee of WPI presided by Umud Rahimoghli also participated at the election process and forming final list.
However, Azerbaijani delegation took part at discussions and held several meetings within the congress.
At meetings with news anchor and correspondent for CNN international Jim Clancy, the Vice President, Executive Editor and co-founder of GlobalPost Charles M. Sennott, the management of WPI, the representatives from the United States, Austria, Nigeria, Bangladesh, Finland gave detailed information on the media situation in Azerbaijan.

At the meetings, the journalists expressed their wish to get more information on Azerbaijan. Jim Clancy from CNN noted that he had received the invitation to visit Azerbaijan in November to prepare material for CNN Report. He said that Azerbaijan has an interesting story that he would like to highlight it.
Discussions at the meeting mainly touched on the new media, social networks, new technologies in media, finding out the ways to integrate new and traditional media, to seek opportunities to keep up media as a business in crisis. Azerbaijani delegation took an active part in the discussions.
Congress will complete its work on September 28.
