Azerbaijan, Turkey to sign intergovernmental agreement on media cooperation

Baku – APA. On October 27-30, Baku will host the 2nd Media Forum of Turkic-speaking countries. The Forum will be held on the initiative of the Azerbaijan’s Press Council. Representatives of Azerbaijan, Turkey, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, as well as Northern Cyprus, Russia’s Turkic-speaking republics of Tatarstan, Bashkiria, Altay, Sakha, Tuva, Khakasia, Kabardino-Balkaria, Karachayevo-Cherkess, Ukraine’s Crimea, Moldova’s Gagauz autonomies will attend the event.

Press Council told APA that 300 delegates, including more than 100 foreign guests will join the Forum. Azerbaijan and Turkey are expected to sign an intergovernmental agreement on media cooperation during the event. The agreement will consider reciprocal visits of journalists of the two countries to strengthen the process of professional exchange, organizing training courses, learning of Turkish media’s role in the country’s economic system and other issues.

The Forum aims to support the integration of Turkic-speaking communities into the international arena, strengthening mutual relations. The Forum will put the initiatives for strengthening Turkic media union forward and discuss principal sides of the acceleration of consolidation of the Turkic-speaking media organizations.

1st Media Forum of the Turkic-speaking countries was held in Ankara, Turkey on December 21-22, 2010. Chairman of the Azerbaijan Press Council Aflatun Amashov, members of the Council’s Board, as well as a group of media managers attended the 1st Forum. It was decided to hold next Forum in Azerbaijan.
