Vilnius hosts OSCE-initiated conference on state of safety of journalists

Baku – APA. Two-day Conference on Safety of Journalists in the OSCE Region has started in Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania. Press Council told APA that chairman of the Council Aflatun Amashov is also attending the conference. The state of freedom of expression and media, facts impeding safety of journalists, the mission of the local authorities and journalist organizations will be discussed during the conference. The participants will exchange views on the role of governments in ensuring the safety of journalists, contributions from civil society, including journalists and media NGOs, best practices in legislation, law-enforcement and judicial instruments to ensure the safety of journalists. On the margins of the Conference on 7 June 2011 a side event will be organized by Thomas Hammarberg, Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights and Dunja Mijatović, OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media.

Along with chairman of the Azerbaijani Press Council Aflatun Amashov, sector chief of the socio-political department of Azerbaijan’s Presidential Administration Vugar Aliyev, director of the Media Rights Institute Rashid Hajili and head of the Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety Emin Huseynov are attending the conference.
