“In accordance with your relevant instructions, construction is underway on the ‘Yengija’ reservoir with a capacity of 17.5 million cubic meters in Gabala district, as well as the ‘Alijanchay’ reservoir with a capacity of 108 million cubic meters in Oguz and Sheki districts. Completion of both projects is planned for 2027,” Deputy Prime Minister of Azerbaijan, Shahin Mustafayev, said during a meeting dedicated to the 2026–2035 State Program on improving water supply, wastewater, and stormwater systems in Baku city and the Absheron Peninsula, APA reports.
Shahin Mustafayev noted that the Yengija reservoir will serve 10,000 hectares of agricultural land in Gabala district.
He added that the Alijanchay reservoir will serve nearly 30,000 hectares of agricultural land in Sheki and Gakh districts, while also providing drinking water to about 49,000 residents across 28 settlements in the Sheki and Oguz districts. The reconstruction of the "Shirvan" canal is continuing in accordance with the relevant presidential Order and is expected to be completed in 2027. After reconstruction, the canal will supply irrigation water to 228,000 hectares of farmland across 10 districts and domestic water to residential areas.
At the same time, design and cost estimate documentation is being prepared for the reconstruction of the Karabakh Canal, which provides irrigation water to up to 115,000 hectares of agricultural land across nine districts and supplies domestic water to residential areas.
