Transit transportation volume along the North–South International Transport Corridor increased by 23% in the first two months of 2026, said Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Shahin Mustafayev, during his speech at the 24th meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission on economic cooperation between Azerbaijan and Russia held in the city of Zangilan, APA reports.
“Particularly, a 61% increase was recorded in railway transportation and a 13% rise in road transportation, which confirms the growing role of the corridor and the increasing demand for it,” he said.
He noted that the International Transport Corridor is one of the priority areas. It was stated that joint efforts are being made to digitalize the corridor, which will allow for a significant acceleration of logistics processes along the entire route.
It was emphasized that Azerbaijan is fully implementing all works envisaged within the framework of the Intergovernmental Agreement dated 2024.
“After the modernization of the relevant railway infrastructure is completed, the annual transportation volume through Azerbaijan’s territory will be at least 5 million tons starting from 2028, and at a later stage, this figure will be gradually increased to 15 million tons.”
