International Conference on Information and Communication Technologies takes place in Azerbaijan

Baku. Aynur Veliyeva - APA-ECONOMICS. An International Conference on Information and Communication Technologies has today kicked off as part of the BakuTel-2009 International ICT Exhibition.

Azerbaijanâ€™s Deputy Minister of Communications and Information Technologies Elmir Valizadeh said in his opening address that the country takes all necessary steps comprehensively towards the development of ICT sector.

"As a result of close cooperation with the UN Development Program, Azerbaijan has made great strides in the ICT sector, and climbed to 63rd from 73rd rank in an international ranking. We intend to continue cooperation in the future", he added.

UNDP Deputy Regional Director Jens Wandel praised the successful implementation of e-education, e-healthcare, e-banking and e-banking projects in Azerbaijan.

He added the UNDP will continue to support Azerbaijan in the future.

Azercell Telecomâ€™s representative Vahid Mursaliyev noted that the mobile communications sector accounts for 70% of revenues in the ICT sector.

â€œI would also say that Azercellâ€™s share in mobile sector is 70% of revenues from the mobile communications," he added.

Then, the conference continued with breakout sessions.
