Azerbaijan presents Trans-Eurasian Information Superhighway Project to UN General Assembly

Baku. Viktoriya Dementieva - APA. The Permanent Mission of Azerbaijan to the United Nations has requested the UN General Assembly to adopt a resolution on the expansion of high-speed access to the Internet through the establishment of the Trans-Eurasian Information Superhighway.

The draft resolution was submitted to the representatives of the Second Committee.

The draft resolution welcomes the initiative to establish the superhighway, as well as the readiness of Azerbaijan to coordinate regional efforts to implement it.

This new project is already joined by more than 20 UN member states, including Belarus, Russia, Ukraine, Moldova, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan.

The document says that information and communication technologies can help accelerate economic growth, improve competitiveness, access to information and knowledge.
