Spokesman for the Office’s press service Eldar Sultanov told APA that Leyla Yunus ignores the notices.

“Leyla Yunus and her husband Arif Yunusov deliberately refused once again to be interrogated without any valid reason although they were summoned to the Investigation Department for Grave Crimes under the Prosecutor General’s Office on July 7”, he said.

Sultanov considered Leyla Yunus’s conditions before the investigation unacceptable. “Although a witness should attend and participate in the investigation and other procedures as required by the prosecuting authority and answer questions fully and correctly on all facts known to him according to the Article #95 of the Criminal Procedure Code, once again she deliberately refused to fulfill her duties by expressing in some media and social networks that she will not testify”, he noted.

Asked about the possible actions in case Leyla Yunus refuses to be interrogated, E.Sultanov called on the human rights defender to respect laws of the country.

“Leyla Yunus is a citizen of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and just like other citizens, she must also respect laws of the country, complying with their requirements. Otherwise, legal measures will be taken against her in accordance with requirements of the criminal-procedural legislation”, he said.
