Operations on Azerbaijani-Russian border completed

Baku. Hafiz Heydarov – APA. The Interior Ministry issued a statement on the operations conducted on the Azerbaijani-Russian border.

 

The Ministry’s press service told APA that according to the agreement between the interior ministers of Azerbaijan and Russia, the search operations and preventive measures were conducted under the “Border-Shield” conditional name in the border regions of both countries on May 19-25, 2014.

 

The main goal of the operations is implementation of the decisions on the cross-border cooperation, as well as neutralization of the members of transnational organized criminal groups and terrorist organizations, implementation of complex organizational and practical measures toward determining and preventing the access to financial and material resources designated for transportation of ammunition, explosives, drugs and implementation of other illegal actions.

 

As a result of the events in Guba, Gusar, Khachmaz, Balaken, Zagatala, Gakh, Shaki, Oghuz and Gabala regions of the republic, 29 wanted people were arrested over various crimes, 15 people wanted by the Russian Federation were detained and residences of 9 missing people were determined.

 

7 illegal submachine guns, 14 pistols, 9 bullets, 45 rifled and bore shotguns, 21 grenades, about 8000 cartridges of various calibers were seized.

 

As a result of the search operations, 10 facts of drug trafficking were revealed, large quantities of wild narcotic plants were destroyed.

 

Disciplinary penalties have been applied on 679 administrative offenses.

 

Similar operations are planned to be conducted in the future.
