Human rights activist Rasul Jafarov appeals to President Ilham Aliyev for pardon

The Penitentiary Service’s public relations department has released information about it, APA reports.

The appeal says:

“Dear Mr President,

I’m charged with committing a crime concerning the projects I implemented within my human rights activities and sentenced to 3-month pre-trial detention on August 2, 2014. The investigation is being carried out complying with the rules of law and within the framework of the investigation powers. Therefore, prior to my arrest, I took all necessary steps toward the detailed investigation. Understanding that only You can help me to be released, I decided to appeal to You for pardon. I have always intended to work for a better and more prosperous homeland—Azerbaijan and my primary purpose is to become even more transparent, honest, and upright in my activities and to have an expanded dialogue and cooperation with state authorities. I assure You that I’m ready to eliminate previous shortcomings and faults in my activity. I intend to make use of my knowledge and skills as well as my potential in freedom, not prison. I ask You to consider what I have mentioned above and issue an order on my release from prison.”

Note that, other imprisoned members of NIDA Civic Movement had earlier applied to President Ilham Aliyev for pardon as well.
