Eldar Sultanov: â€œErshad Ibrahimov isnâ€™t an employee of Azadlig newspaper, he is a journalist engaged in racketeering activityâ€

Spokesman for the newspaper Eldar Sultanov told APA that journalist Ershad Ibrahimov, engaged in racketeering activity, demanded AZN 30 0000 from former head of Kalbajar Region Department of Education Mahammad Baghirov threatening him that he will disseminate humiliating information about him at different times in 2012-2013, as he refused to give the money, he posted information titled “Former head of Kalbajar Region Department of Education Mamed Baghirov raped a 17-year-old girl” on "Youtube" website on April 13, 2013.

Sultanov said that based on an appeal filed by Bagirov, Ganja City Main Police Office has launched a criminal case on Ershad Ibrahimov, an employee of Azadlig newspaper, under the Criminal Code’s article #182 (extortion by threats). The investigation of the case has already been completed and submitted to Ganja City Court of Grave Crimes. Ibrahimov has today been sentenced to pretrial detention.

Ibrahimov was arrested as he interfered with the court process illegally influencing the witnesses during the court hearing. “Some media outlets falsely report that Ershad Ibrahimov is an employee of Azadlig newspaper. Ershad Ibrahimov isn’t an employee of Azadlig newspaper, he is a journalist engaged in racketeering activity.”
