Azerbaijan General Prosecutorâ€™s Office issues official warning against Leyla Yunus

Baku. Hafiz Heydarov – APA. General Prosecutor’s Office has issued an official warning against Leyla Yunus and her representative.

The body’s press service told APA that Leyla Yunus and Arif Yunus were summoned for interrogation as witnesses on the criminal case, pending before the Investigating Department for Grave Crimes under General Prosecutor’s Office, and execution of other investigative actions, as well as medical examination in connection with the health condition of Arif Ynus, presenting them writs on April 25-28 as well as May 29 this year, they have intentionally evaded from coming to the investigative agency without valid reasons.

Yunusova has recently stated on some media outlets and social networks that she won’t testify as a witness in the criminal case, subjected individuals to undue influence calling them to refuse to testify and sign the protocols.

According to Article #178 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, Yunusova and her representative Khalid Baghirov was warned on May 30 that the court would be appealed to sentence her to the pre-trial detention under the relevant articles of the Criminal Code as she didn’t come to the prosecuting authority without any reasonable excuse, forces others to give false testimony, interfere with the course of the investigation and refused to testify.

Yunusova’s laying down conditions for the investigation is unacceptable.
