Officials accused of committing smuggling crimes have been arrested in Azerbaijan, according to the Prosecutor General's Office of the Republic of Azerbaijan, APA reports.
The preliminary investigation is ongoing at the Chief Anti-Corruption Office under the Prosecutor General’s Office regarding the criminal case received from the State Customs Committee concerning the illegal activities of officials involved in committing smuggling crimes.
The investigation has established reasonable suspicion that Parvin Dursunaliyev, an employee assigned to the Air Transport Head Customs Department of the State Customs Committee’s “Azərterminalkompleks” Union, and Mansur Mehdiyev, an inspector of the Scanning Department of the same Head Department, conspired in advance with their acquaintance Ali Ibrahimov and on July 8, 2024, they managed to covertly pass five gold bars worth 190,400 AZN, purchased from the United Arab Emirates, across the customs border of the Republic of Azerbaijan, bypassing customs control, with the assistance of other members of the criminal group at the airport's border checkpoint.
As a result of the search operation, relevant physical evidence was discovered and seized.
Based on the collected preliminary evidence, Ali Ibrahimov, Parvin Dursunaliyev, and Mansur Mehdiyev have been charged under Articles 206.3.2 and 206.3.3 of the Criminal Code, and a detention measure was chosen for them by a decision of the Binagadi District Court, following the investigator's motion and the prosecutor's submission overseeing the preliminary investigation.
The investigation-operational measures are currently ongoing to identify other individuals involved in the commission of these illegal actions.
