As of September 15 this year, the bodies of a total of 64 people were found and recovered from the water by the rescue units of the Ministry of Emergency Situations (MES) in non-beach areas, Akshin Alili, Head of the Public Relations and Awareness Department of the State Service for Control over Small Vessels and Water Rescue of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, said at a briefing held in connection with the end of the beach season, APA reports.
According to him, the corresponding figure was 85 during the same period last year, representing a decrease of approximately 25%. If these figures are considered for the beach season, during the current year’s beach season, they were found in the water by rescuers.
According to the information, no deaths were recorded during the beach season in areas controlled by the Ministry of Emergency Situations.
Alili said that the total number of bodies recovered was 59, compared with 68 during the same period last year, representing a decrease of approximately 13% compared with the same period last year.
“An important point should be noted here: of the indicated figure of 59, only 29 are directly related to drowning while swimming. Preliminary investigations determined that the other cases occurred for various reasons, including negligence, fishing activities, and others,” he added.
