Sumgayitâ€™s former military commissar faces trial on corruption charges

Former military commissar of Sumgayit City, Colonel Samir Mammadov was arrested in May, 2011.

Military Prosecutor Khanlar Veliyev said at the board meeting of the Republic Military Prosecutorâ€™s Office few days ago that the Military Prosecutorâ€™s Office uses the administrative and convincing methods in undertaking measures against the corruption, improves its activity making this work its priority. Military prosecutorâ€™s office has done relevant work in the field of combating corruption and bribery and launched criminal proceedings on 84 facts last year. During the inspections in the military commissariats the facts of groundless draft exemption, illegal deferment of military services and bribery were found. The criminal proceedings have been launched under the article 311.1 (bribery), 313 (falsification of office), 341.1 (abuse of power) of the Criminal Code. The preliminary investigation on the case of the military commissariats of Bakuâ€™s Surakhani and Khatai districts, as well as Jalilabad and Aghdam regions were ended and the investigative materials were sent to the courts. The investigation on the cases of military commissariats of Bakuâ€™s Binagadi district, Sumgayit City and Ganjaâ€™s Nizami district is underway.
