Experts said the explosion was caused by pipeline corrosion. The Gazimammad-Gazakh main pipeline was opened in 1978 and has not been repaired since that time. Gas pressure was increased in the pipeline due to frosty weather and it caused a gas leak and then explosion.

It is needed to use heavy techniques to the accident site which is situated in the mountainous area and the repair work is expected to start tomorrow. After that gas supply to Goychay and Ujar regions will be restored.

Gas supply to Gabala region was restored at 19.00 on Monday via other pipelines, APA local bureau reports.

The representatives of Aghdash Gas Mains, three fire engines of Goychay region firefighting unit were sent to the site.

As the blast site is at high altitudes, there are problems in taking the equipment to the site. The flames rose up to 30 meters, that’s why they are seen at a distance of 10 km.
