Woman, 80, jailed for drug smuggling in Austria

Baku – APA. An 80-year old woman has been found guilty of smuggling drugs for her addicted son and sentenced to two years in prison, APA reports quoting “Associated Pressâ€.
The woman was arrested in February with narcotics worth around €8,000 ($11,600) in her possession. The indictment accused her of smuggling 1.5 kilograms of heroin and 500 grams of cocaine from the Netherlands into Austria between 2008 and this year.
Her 46-year-old son broke down in tears before Friday’s verdict and sentencing and asked the court for leniency. "Mommy made no profit, she did it out of love for me," the Austria Press Agency cited him as saying.
He was sentenced to eight years in prison for possession and sale of drugs. Neither of the two were identified, in line with Austrian custom.
