Baku – APA. Russian authorities say at least 17 rebels were killed in air and ground attacks in the country’s volatile North Caucasus region, APA reports quoting “The Voice of Americaâ€.
Monday’s clashes occurred in the province of Ingushetia near the border with Chechnya.
Russia’s national anti-terror committee says the operation involved both air and ground forces. Russian media said the operation destroyed a rebel base used to train suicide bombers.
Russia’s Caucasus republics are plagued by violence mostly linked to an Islamic insurgency that has spread across the region after two separatist wars in Chechnya.
