Eldar Mahmoudov: â€œ9 criminal cases were launched and 29 were held accountable as a result of anti-terror measuresâ€

Baku â€“ APA. â€œThe work toward the prevention of provocations, sabotages and terrorist plans of the foreign special services and other subjects is successfully continued as a result of measures conducted in time. 12 traitors and spies were unmasked. 9 criminal cases have been launched and 29 criminals have been brought to justice as a result of operational searches conducted within the anti-terror measures since 2010â€, said Minister of National Security of Azerbaijan Eldar Mahmoudov at the meeting dedicated to the 92nd anniversary of the national security organizations of Azerbaijan. The minister said neutralization of the threats against the economic potential of Azerbaijan is an important condition for the national security, APA was told at the public relations department of the Ministry of National Security. â€œThe activity in this field is characteristic with struggling against the economic and financial crimes, corruption, swindle, smugglingâ€, said the minister.
Especially touching the problem of corruption, the minister said Azerbaijani President and society are concerned about this problem. He said 8 criminal cases were launched and 12 held accountable for corruption in the past period.

Mahmoudov noted that information security is particularly important as one of the ministryâ€™s functional duties. He said serious attention was given to struggling against the information technology crimes, including cybercrime, and this struggle is being conducted in accordance with the modern requirements. â€œThe experience shows that the open sources in some countries play the role of means in total violation of stability. Particularly, the multinational countries with rich natural resources and sensitive religious atmosphere are targeted. The young people, who have no mature political consciousness, fall under the influence. The foreign forces, as well as some domestic elements try to benefit from this situationâ€.

Minister said 24 criminal cases were launched, 44 were held accountable as a result of the effective operations carried out to combat transnational organized crimes.
Eldar Mahmudov underlined that combating illicit drug turnover, illegal migration, human trafficking, ensuring energy and transport security of Azerbaijan still are the priorities.
â€œImportant achievements were made in these spheres. 30 transnational groups were rendered harmless, 1 550 tones of drugs confiscated, 44 criminal cases launched within the framework of the struggle against illicit drug turnover,â€ he said.
It was noted that efficient cooperation was established with the law-enforcement bodies and intelligence agencies of other countries.
Noting that investigations were carried out efficiently, contributions were made to solving crimes and exposing criminals, Minister said the investigation of 147 criminal cases was completed at the Ministry of National Security.
