Ombudsman receives representative of “Amnesty International” organization

Baku. Kamala Guliyeva – APA. Ombudsman Elmira Suleymanova received “Amnesty International” organization’s researcher on Europe and Central Asia Natalia Nozadze at her request, the Ombudsman’s Office told APA. At the meeting, the Ombudsman informed guest about cooperation with state agencies, NGOs, and international organizations, as well as on the activity of the Ombudsman’s regional centers and specialist advisers. Ombudsman noted the adoption of law in Azerbaijan on Ratification of the Optional Protocol to the UN’s Convention against and other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment. According to the law, the ombudsman holds regular monitoring in the detention facilities, isolators, penitentiary institutions, mental hospitals, nursing and orphan homes.

Nozadze said the Ombudsman has carried out effective work in the protection of human rights. She inquired about the main directions of the Ombudsman’s activity, particularly in monitoring the rights of Eynulla Fatullayev, Jabbar Savalanli and Bakhtiyar Hajiyev, who are currently in prison.
