Mark Hereward said the organization is closely cooperating with the Ombudsman's Office, adding that the ombudsman is playing a big part in the protection of children and women, making a sensitive approach to the area of children’s protection in Azerbaijan.
The Ombudsman’s Office awarded a certificate to Mark Hereward for his merits in the area of children’s protection in Azerbaijan.
Deputy Head of the National Institutions and Regional Mechanisms Section under UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights Aferin Shahidzadeh noted that women are still suffering from violence and discrimination in the modern world. He said that women must be allowed to play a bigger role in resolution of conflicts and obtaining peace.
He also said sexual violence against women is still commonplace in different parts of the world: “UN Secretary General is frequently involved in the campaign against sexual violence against women. It’s also important to promote mass media outlets’ activities in the protection of women’s rights. At the same time, countries must enhance their legislative framework in this direction. Employees of law enforcement bodies need to undergo special trainings in the area of combating domestic violence”.
