Sergey Lavrov thinks the Ukrainian administration has taken an aggressive position. He expressed the necessity of ceasefire: “I read in a Ukrainian newspaper that the Ukrainian administration is planning to evict some 100,000 people from Ukraine’s east to its west. This is an obvious ethnic cleansing. They’re evicting people who are demanding their rights from their homes to other places. However, I’m not yet sure whether it’s true or not. What a shame if true”!
Lavrov also touched upon Petro Poroshenko’s ceasefire offer: “The ceasefire offer is good if it covers the country’s whole territory. But in one hand they’re speaking of ceasefire, on the other hand aggression continues. Ceasefire is needed. We are expecting them to hold talks with volunteers opposing the Ukrainian government and representatives of Eastern Ukraine. If what they mean is to declare short-term ceasefire and disarm the volunteers during this time, and then arrest them, it’s unacceptable. By evading from talks, the Ukrainian government is acting far beyond European values. An uncompromised position isn’t right. It would be unproductive to declare martial law in eastern regions.
