APA reports that the event was attended by state officials, MPs, ambassadors of foreign countries and others. In his speech during the meeting, Rector of the ADA University Hafiz Pashayev said Azerbaijan is cooperating with the EU in various areas. He remarked that there are successful projects in the areas of education, science, trade, and energy. He said Azerbaijan is interested to boost its relations with the EU and implement new projects. In his turn, Mr Barroso said Azerbaijan is making a huge progress. He said that as part of his visit, an agreement on further developing the cooperation between Azerbaijan and the EU in the area of education has been adopted. He then noted that the ADA University, as an exemplary educational center, can play a key part in this direction. Speaking of Azerbaijan’s energy projects, Mr Barroso said the realization of the Southern Gas Corridor project is one of the common priorities: “The realization of this project will ensure the EU’s and Azerbaijan’s access to energy resources. At the same time, it will pay the way for even deeper economic cooperation between Azerbaijan and the EU, resulting in opening of 30,ooo new work places”.
Mr Barroso also said the Southern Gas Corridor will highly contribute to Azerbaijan’s economic development and ensuring Europe’s energy security. He noted that preparations to simplify the visa regime between Azerbaijan and the EU are currently underway, adding that advancements in this direction will simplify communication and relations.
