British PM's Envoy: â€œFID on Shahdeniz will provide European energy security and diversity on energy supplyâ€ - PHOTO

Baku – APA. The European Azerbaijan Society (TEAS) has organized a briefing jointly with CATBIG, intercompany network consisting of companies located in Great Britain and directed to Middle Asian and South Caucasian countries. The Society told APA that the event was attended by over 60 diplomats and representatives from British energy, financial services, IT, infrastructural and agricultural sectors.

Member of British Parliament, Prime Minister's Trade Envoy to Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan Charles Hendry noted that the countries have good relations and British companies need to define in which spheres the opportunities are: “British and Azerbaijani governments should define priorities of cooperation between the partner organizations for British companies to get better profit. Currently, the relations are mainly in oil and gas sector. The Final Investment Decision on Azerbaijan and BP-operated Shahdeniz consortium signed between Azerbaijan and Britain in December, 2013, can be accepted as a next stage in these relations. This is the first step for implementation of Southern Gas Corridor. The project will bring Azerbaijani gas to the South Europe and provide European energy security and diversity on energy supply”.

Thereafter, C. Hendry noted that currently, approximately 500 British companies operate and 5,000 British citizens work in Azerbaijan.

Azerbaijani Ambassador to the U.K. Tahir Taghizadeh stated that political, economic and security interests of both countries coincide: “We want our relations with the U.K. not to be satisfied with only energy resources. Economic issues are priority in my activity as an ambassador. My objective in both energy and non-energy sectors is to provide access for British companies to Azerbaijan’s economy”.
