Spokesperson for the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry, Hikmet Hajiyev said while commenting on the President of the European Parliament Martin Schulz’s statements regarding Azerbaijan at the EP’s plenary session in Strasbourg Nov. 26.
As for the European Parliament’s delegation’s visit to Azerbaijan that Schulz touched upon in his speech, Hajiyev said that no relevant authorities of the country received official information about the European Parliament’s delegation’s visit to Azerbaijan.
“The fact that Martin Schulz distorted the issue in his speech is regrettable”, he said.
The spokesperson also mentioned that EU member states have enough problems related to human rights. Such problems include Islamophobia, anti-semitism and increasing trends of discrimination, police misconduct and violation of labor relations and migrants' rights. Martin Schulz would be better to pay more attention to these problems as well as the events in Ferguson, police misconduct in Brussels and other European countries and the cases of use of disproportionate force”, Hajiyev said.
