Armenian delegation tried to impede seminar of NATO PA in Baku

Baku. Mubariz Aslanov – APA. Armenian delegation tried to impede the 86^th Rose Roth seminar of the NATO PA in Baku approaching the facts impatiently.

APA reports that firstly, director of the LINKS Analysis and Oxford University Dennis Sammut made speech on economic development in Azerbaijan.

He spoke about positive changes and noted that only problem of Azerbaijan Nagorno Karabakh should be settled peacefully: “This issue should be based on the territorial integrity, self-determination of the peoples. Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity has been violated and should be restored”.

Though representatives of 28 countries applauded Sammut’s speech, Armenian delegation protested against it. Raising the placards with their names, the Armenian delegation tried to impede the seminar standing up out of program. First Vice-Speaker of Azerbaijani Parliament, head of Azerbaijani delegation to the NATO PA gave a word to them.

Though the head of Armenian delegation to the NATO PA Koryun Nahapetyan, who spoke on behalf of Armenian delegation, protested against Sammut’s speech, he did not substantiated it and immediately called the demand of speaker of Azerbaijani Parliament Ogtay Asadov’s in his speech regarding Azerbaijan’s occupied territories, returning of internally displaced persons to their home as an “aggression”. He urgently demanded that so-called “Nagorno Karabakh Republic” should also be noted as a side of the settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict together with Armenia and Azerbaijan in these discussions”. Nahapetyan omitted the issue on occupation of Azerbaijan’s territory and mainly tried to focus on the issue on fortune of Armenians living in Nagorno Karabakh.

Thereafter, Executive Secretary of the New Azerbaijan Party Siyavush Novruzov reminded to the participants, including Armenian delegation with concrete facts that Azerbaijan’s territories have been occupied by Armenia and Karabakh is constituent part of Azerbaijan: “If the talk is about self-determination of Armenians, Armenian people has already achieved it and built their state. Now, it is absurd to try to build the second Armenian state because a part of Armenians live in the lands of Azerbaijan. Today, there are more Armenians in the many countries of the world, for instance in California than in Karabakh. Does it mean that another Armenian state should be built there? Armenians are living compactly in over 30 countries of the world. Does it mean that over 30 Armenian states should be built in the world?”

After Novruzov, Sammut repeated his view and reminded that the conflict is between Azerbaijan and Armenia. He noted he is against war and the sides should solve the problem peacefully and respect the territorial integrity.

Member of Azerbaijani delegation to the NATO PA, MP Zahid Oruj responded to the armenians’ demand “self-determination of armenians”: “If you are really supporting self-determination of Armenians living there, then let Armenia step aside as a state and Azerbaijan will solve the problem with the citizens in Nagorno Karabakh, although they showed disobedience”.

Member of Armenian delegation Tevan Poghosyan approached the abovementioned speeches ironically. He told Sammut and other international experts without commenting on facts that as if they support position of official Baku because of holding of the seminar in Azerbaijan. Thereafter, the Armenian MP tried to distort 4 resolutions of the UN regarding Nagorno Karabakh: “I offer to be get familiarized with the text of he resolution if it is the topic of the discussion. Look at what have been written there and then call Armenia as an occupier”.

Armenian delegation also intended to discuss subject of Turkey-Armenia relations. Poghosyan accused Azerbaijan of sharing Armenia-Turkey relations and noted that Armenia is actually in blockade. He also denied the reality regarding internally displacement of Azerbaijanis from their lands.

Thereafter, member of Turkish delegation to the NATO PA Ahmet Berat Conkar protested against accusation of Azerbaijan by Armenia of the relations between Turkey and Armenia: “This is Armenia’s choice that it is in the blockade. Armenia actually occupied Azerbaijan’s territories. Our united position is clear: The border will be opened when Armenia withdraws its troops from Azerbaijan’s territories”.

Before first break, Z. Asgerov made a speech: “Armenian delegation spoke about 4 resolutions of the UN regarding Nagorno Karabakh. Mr. Poghosyan, that resolution is in my hand. It writes that Armenia violated Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity ad immediately withdraw from occupied territories. Moreover, your President Serzh Sargsyan clearly said at the PACE meeting Armenia has occupied Azerbaijan’s territories and keep control on them. This is official confession of your president. Now, do you leave your president behind? At the same time, Azerbaijan’s Nakhchivan region is in he blockade as a consequence of occupation by Armenia. However, you are speaking about Armenia’s blockade. Let’s approach a little honestly, who is in blockade?”

During Asgerov’s speech, Armenians tried to impede it.
