"Every year, the risks of racism, social inequality, and xenophobia increase worldwide. No one is immune to these," said Pastor Martines, a member of the UN Permanent Forum on People of African Descent, at the international scientific conference "Imperial Structure: Colonial Ideologies and Realities" held in Baku, APA reports.
He also addressed the severe challenges faced by peoples subjected to colonial policies.
The guest noted that representatives of African peoples suffered from gender inequality, colonialism, and slavery oppression:
"This factor still manifests itself today. Currently, they face migration crises, racism, and violence based on these grounds. Climate change has also added to these problems. Today, Baku has become a platform where previously ignored peoples’ problems are voiced. We should benefit from this platform to achieve our goals. The goal is to escape colonization and independently determine our own destiny. In such conditions, I also want to remind about the participation of colonized peoples in the formation of the global heritage in North and South America. This issue must not be forgotten."
