Statements about the failure in Russia's activity in the negotiations on the normalization of Armenian-Azerbaijani relations due to a special military operation in Ukraine have no basis, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova told at a news briefing as she commented on Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s statement, APA reports.
Zakharova noted that official Moscow is doing its utmost to achieve sustainable peace in the South Caucasus. “Russia is interested in the progress of the normalization process of Armenia-Azerbaijan relations.”
According to the Russian diplomat, if there has been a series of contacts at the highest level with the involvement of Russia in recent months, there can be no question of a failure in activity. On 25 May, this year, a trilateral meeting of the leaders of Armenia, Russia, and Azerbaijan was held, and on 2 June, the 12th meeting of the trilateral working group on the opening of transport communications was held under the co-chairmanship of the Deputy Prime Ministers. Also, the three countries’ foreign ministers held tripartite talks on 19 May and 25 July. "Is all this a failure in activity? It is necessary to accept the truth as it is."
Note that on 25 July, Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan at a press conference noted that Russia's activity in the process of normalization of Armenia-Azerbaijan relations has reduced. According to Pashinyan, the negotiations with official Baku have been dominated by meetings on Western platforms.
