On the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the Azerbaijani press, a meeting on the topic “Artificial Intelligence Journalism” was held with the participation of foreign, as well as Azerbaijani and Turkish journalists, APA reports.

The event was organized by the Press Council of Azerbaijan and the International Journalists Council (Türkiye).

At the beginning, the memory of the sons of the Motherland who gave their lives for the liberation of our lands was honored with a minute of silence.

The event was opened with an introductory speech by the Chairman of the Press Council of Azerbaijan, Rashad Majid.

He spoke about the history of Azerbaijani press and the development path it followed after the abolition of censorship by the Order of National Leader Heydar Aliyev: “In August 1998, censorship was abolished by the Order of National Leader Heydar Aliyev. Later, President Ilham Aliyev also continued to show attention and care for the Azerbaijani press. We wish for a museum of Azerbaijani Press to be established in Shusha. I saw such a museum in Türkiye and regret that we do not have one in our country. After the Karabakh victory in 2020, relations between Azerbaijani and Turkish journalists became even closer. We highly appreciate the current level of our relations.”

Chairman of the Global Journalists Organization (Küresel Gazeteciler Konseyi), Mehmet Ali Dim, congratulated our people on both the 150th anniversary of the Azerbaijani press and the 107th anniversary of our independence.

He also spoke about the brotherhood between Türkiye and Azerbaijan and the development of media relations between the two countries.

The guest expressed confidence that the event, held for introductory purposes, will further strengthen the ties between media representatives of the two brotherly countries.

Columnist of the "Sabah" newspaper, Yavuz Donat, spoke about the historical friendship and brotherhood between Azerbaijan and Türkiye.

Yavuz Donat highly valued the role of media representatives in further developing these relations.

Professor Levent Eraslan emphasized that artificial intelligence is now widely used in the preparation of news texts: “Artificial intelligence prepares news texts, but there is a problem in verifying the source. Although AI is capable of generating texts, due to its lack of emotional aspects, human intervention becomes necessary in the end. UNESCO has a code called 'Artificial Intelligence and Media Ethics'. This document clearly outlines the differences between the two concepts. It is shown that in the preparation of content on social media platforms, the capabilities of AI are used. I believe that such a note should also be reflected in news articles. AI can ultimately be a powerful pen, but if the human touch is missing, the news has no real value.”

Founder and head of the Artificial Intelligence Policy Association (AIPA), Zafer Kuchukshabanoglu, touched on the importance of the period leading up to 2030 in the development of artificial intelligence.

He emphasized the necessity for people to integrate AI into their daily lives by that time:

“The second and third industrial revolutions created great excitement in humanity. We are currently in the era of the fourth industrial revolution. Türkiye ranks 58th among 119 countries in the artificial intelligence index. The press is changing around the world. By 2030, AI technology will hold a market share worth $15.7 billion. Will Türkiye and Azerbaijan be part of the statistic where 85 million people lose their jobs or the one where 97 million new jobs are created? That is the main question. The world's first and only artificial intelligence university and Ministry of Artificial Intelligence are located in the United Arab Emirates. Singapore has started offering AI lessons to citizens over 40 years old. A new concept has also emerged – technofeudalism. For instance, we have seen that during presidents' inauguration ceremonies, their families are usually present in the background, but during Donald Trump's inauguration, Elon Musk was in the background. I believe that by 2030, people who do not make AI a part of their lives will be at risk of losing their jobs.”

The event continued with panel discussions.
