Russian Culture and Information Center opens in Azerbaijanâ€™s capital

Baku. Lachin Sultanova â€“ APA. Azerbaijani and Russian Foreign Ministers Elmar Mammadyarov and Sergei Lavrov have today participated in the opening ceremony of Russian Culture and Information Center in Baku, APA reports. Lavrov appreciated opening of such a center in Baku and said it would serve the expansion of humanitarian cooperation between the two countries.

Elmar Mammadyarov said great attention was paid to the Russian language and culture in Azerbaijan, branch of Moscow State University was opened in Baku, performances of Russian Drama Theater were sold out. The minister also said that along with his Russian counterpart they decided to hold Russian culture days in Baku and Azerbaijani culture days in Moscow.

Addressing the event head of Rossotrudnichestvo Farid Mukhamentshin presented the keys of the new car to director of Russian Culture and Information Center Anvar Sheykhov.

Azeri MP Elmira Akhundova presented her four-volume book about Heydar Aliyev to Sergei Lavrov.

Azerbaijani officials, heads of diplomatic offices, Azerbaijani intellectuals, head of Baku Trans-Caspian Eparchy Alexander, head of Azerbaijani Russian community Mikhail Zabelin and hetman of Azerbaijani Cossacks Victor Mereshkin and others attended the event.
