Slovenia needs more time to fulfill its defense commitments, Slovenian Prime Minister Janez Janša said during an interview with journalists on the second day of the NATO Summit in Ankara, APA reports.
He said that his country would comply with its commitments to NATO from now on.
The Prime Minister stressed that Slovenia failed to raise its defense spending to 2% of GDP this year.
According to him, the reason is not only financial indicators but also unfulfilled promises by the previous government.
Janša said that the new government would remain committed to the obligations it had undertaken before NATO and would pursue a transparent policy regarding defense spending. He added that due to uncertainty in public finances and budgetary problems, it is not possible to fulfill all commitments this year.
