The smuggling of 78 kilograms and 250 grams of narcotic substances and 1,990 narcotic-containing pills from the Islamic Republic of Iran into the Republic of Azerbaijan has been prevented as part of measures to ensure the reliable protection of the state border and combat smuggling and the illegal trafficking of narcotic substances, APA reports, citing the State Border Service.
As a result of border search and operational measures, 6 kilograms and 380 grams of narcotic substances (5 kilograms and 530 grams of marijuana; 850 grams of opium) and 1,990 Methadone M-40 psychotropic pills were seized in the service area of the State Border Service's Border Troops "Horadiz" border detachment. In the service area of the "Lankaran" border detachment, 71 kilograms and 870 grams of marijuana were discovered and removed from illegal circulation.
Operational and investigative measures are ongoing regarding the incident.
