Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babiš said Czechia will not meet NATO's defense spending target this year, APA's correspondent dispatched to Ankara reports.
Speaking to journalists on the sidelines of the 36th NATO Leaders' Summit, he said the country would not be able to fulfill its commitment to allocate 2% of its GDP to defense spending this year.
According to the prime minister, the main reason is that the current government inherited a state budget with a deficit of 90 billion Czech korunas from the previous administration.
"I believe we will not reach the 2% target this year," Prime Minister Andrej Babiš told reporters.
It should be noted that Czechia is currently one of the three NATO member states allocating the least funding to defense. The other two are Albania and Slovenia.
