Andres Herkel: â€œWe will discuss the referendum in Azerbaijan with Venice Commissionâ€

Lachin Sultanova â€“ APA. â€œWe will have discussions with the Council of Europeâ€™s Venice Commission concerning the referendum on amendments and annexes to Azerbaijanâ€™s Constitution,â€ co-rapporteur of Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) Monitoring Committee for Azerbaijan Andres Herkel told APA. The co-rapporteur said it was inadvisable to put the constitutional amendments and annexes to the referendum without having discussions with the Council of Europe and Venice Commission and underlined that the referendum in Azerbaijan and extension of the term of license for foreign radio broadcasts would be discussed at the meeting of the Monitoring Committee within the framework of PACE winter session on January 26-30.

Andres Herkel said he would visit Azerbaijan by the referendum along with the co-rapporteur Evguenia Jivkova. The co-rapporteur supposes that the visit will take place early in March.
